T Sounds in English

The /t/ sound in English is an unvoiced consonant sound. It’s made at the front of the mouth by pushing your tongue against and slightly between the lower and upper teeth. This is a hard sound for some people to make. Sometimes it sounds like a /d/ sound, or it stops short of making any sound at all. It’s a sound that can be emphasized or ignored when speaking, but whatever sound you make for it, people hear it.

/t/ – Initial T

middle /t/

When the /t/ sound appears in the middle of a word, it might sound like a /d/. This is true in American English, but not always in British English. British English uses a sharper /t/ sound that is easier to hear.
