R Sounds in English
The “r” sound is a difficult sound for some people. The formation of it depends on whether the /r/ comes at the beginning of the word (initial /r/), in the middle of the word (middle /r/), or at the end of the word (final /r/). To make an /r/ sound at the beginning of a word, your lips are pushed together and your mouth opens up for the vowel sound that follows. This is a voiced sound.
